Renita is a critically acclaimed interdisciplinary artist whose works have appeared on "Good Morning America," in the New York Times, the Boston Globe, Off-Broadway, regionally, and internationally. She is the author of several books and plays and has contributed to many anthologies. Some of her recent jingle-writing credits include the currently running podcast "Jump at the Sun" and the Washington Area Metropolitan Transit Authority's "Metro Voices". Sonja is a screenwriter, producer, performer, and facilitator with a passion for telling female-driven, diverse stories that explore socially relevant issues in unexpected ways. After working as an actress for almost ten years, Sonja felt a call to participate in wellness initiatives in her community and worked as a health educator for youth and their families throughout South Los Angeles. She went on to receive her MPH from UCLA’s Fielding School of Public Health and upon graduation, worked as Director of Research & Development at Wise Entertainment, where she worked on numerous television projects and also served as associate producer on Hulu’s six-time Emmy-nominated television show, East Los High. She is also associate producer on Time 2 Surrender, an award-winning short film written, directed, and starring actor Elvis Nolasco and executive produced by Spike Lee. She now works as a screenwriter and was recently staffed on the Facebook Watch show, Five Points, executive produced by Kerry Washington. She also has a development deal for a half-hour television show that tackles issues around black female identity through the lens of reality television. Sonja serves on the board of FYI Films, a non-profit that teaches filmmaking to incarcerated youth, and has been a guest lecturer and keynote speaker at institutions around the country.
