Ni’Ja is a gender nonconforming/astral transmogrifying interdisciplinary artist and writer who has been referred to as “majestic” by The New York Times and recognized by Brooklyn Magazine as a culture influencer. They are a Creative Capital Awardee, MAP Fund grantee, Jerome/Camargo Fellow, Hedgebrook Fellow, featured choreographer of the 2018 Cornell Council for the Arts Biennial, and a Bessie-Award winner. Whitson is currently an Assistant Professor of experimental choreography at UC Riverside and is the founder/artistic director of The NWA Project.
