Aimee speaks of being from Detroit, raised southerners that migrated there. Influenced by the church, Aimee roots in her artistic wealth in her Blackness. A founding company member of Congo Square Theatre Company in Chicago, Aimee speaks of coming through the theatre program at Howard, receiving training from Mike Malone (one of the founders of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts). After moving to Minnesota Aimee said learning the Penumbra Theatre Company’s aesthetic in which performers collaborate to make the story the star of the show, she said she found freedom in movement through West African dance through work with Patricia Brown. Aimee encourages emerging artists to build a Life and career centered in being kind, empathic, compassionate and Loving. “Take a leap of faith, move towards what you want, what feels good - even if it is scary.”

Aimee is an actor, vocalist, and teaching artist who’s artistic practice is rooted in soul music. joy, and a rigorous curiosity about the way things are. Her mission is to use performance as a tool for self reflection, individual and collective healing, liberation and transformation. Her debut cd Becoming is available online. Aimee was named City Pages 2015 Actress of the Year, and is a McKnight Theatre Artist Fellow for 2015-2016.
