In this conversation Renita speaks about being from Terry Mississippi/connected to the Spirits, the Ancestors and the land there - feeling the Angels, Ancestors, animal Life and Trees playing “all up in my head.” Renita talks about learning how to navigate Spirit/growing up with a mother that was a church woman, and a grandmother who was a medicine woman. Though they wanted to pray the queer and the “Seeing” out of her, she understood at a young age that “if I had the kind of Love that I had for people, and if I got signs and got this Light - that it couldn’t be unholy.” In addition to writing, performing, publishing and producing - Renita is founder of Rhythm Visions Production Company whose mission is to advance social and economic development in our communities through the creation and promotion of world-class art. rhythmvisionsproductioncompany.com.
